Fisk University Summer Research Program (SRP), Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU)
The REU summer program at Fisk University will offer undergraduate students the opportunity to conduct various types of Materials Science research. This program is designed especially for sophomores, juniors and seniors majoring in such fields at physics, chemistry, mathematics, and engineering. Students will be mentored by the Fisk University faculty, post docs and graduate students in the following areas in the Physics Department: Chemical Physics, Optical Materials, Materials Science and Applications and Surface Science. Students will also participate in an organized program of lectures, mini-courses, laboratory visits and a variety of recreational activities.

The Jackson Laboratory Summer Student Program
The Summer Student Program is designed to help students understand the nature of research science. The emphasis of this program is on methods of discovery and communication of knowledge, not the mastery of established facts. Independent research is under the guidance of a mentor. Students will have the opportunity to develop an independent research project, implement their plan, analyze the data, and report their results. Each year, there will be about thirty students chosen from around the United States, from both high school and undergraduate institutions. Jackson Lab is located near the beautiful Acadia National Park.

National Institutes of Health, Summer Internship Program in Biomedical Research
Summer programs at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) provide an opportunity to spend a summer working at the NIH side-by-side with some of the leading scientists in the world, in an environment devoted exclusively to biomedical research. The NIH consists of the 240-bed Mark O. Hatfield Clinical Research Center and more than 1200 laboratories/research projects located on the main campus in Bethesda, MD and the surrounding area as well as in Baltimore and Frederick, MD; Research Triangle Park, NC; Phoenix, AZ; Hamilton, MT; Framingham, MA; and Detroit, MI.
Awards cover a minimum of eight weeks, with students generally arriving at the NIH in May or June. The NIH Institutes and the Office of Intramural Training & Education sponsor a wide range of summer activities including lectures featuring distinguished NIH investigators, career/professional development workshops, and Summer Poster Day.

The University of Colorado at Boulder offers 10-week summer research internships through the Summer Multicultural Access to Research Training (SMART) program. The internships provide hands-on experience in research and an introduction to graduate education at a leading university. Twenty to twenty five undergraduates from institutions nationwide take part in this challenging and informative program each summer. SMART interns conduct research projects in science, math, and engineering fields under the guidance of a faculty mentor and see firsthand graduate student life at a major institution. Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University: Multicultural Academic Opportunities Program (MAOP)
Summer Research Internship Program: For 10 weeks in the summer, undergraduate students have the opportunity to gain hands-on research experience in their chosen discipline.
