Awards and Grants
Departments and organizations may offer awards and grants to undergraduates to support their research.
Presidents Undergraduate Fellowship (PUF)
This program supports undergraduate students doing research or creative projects under the guidance of UC Davis faculty members. Students from all discipline areas are eligible to apply.
Due to the serious budget cuts on campus, the Undergraduate Research Center is unable to fund the President’s Undergraduate Fellowship for the November 2009 call. Please check back in January to find out the status of the President’s Undergraduate Fellowship for the remainder of the 2009-10 year.
Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF)
This program supports undergraduate students doing research or creative projects under the guidance of UC Davis faculty members. Students from all discipline areas are eligible to apply.
The Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Research/Dean Keith Simonton Prize
Each year a graduating senior who has completed outstanding research or scholarship in any academic subject while at Davis that crosses formal disciplinary lines is awarded this prize. Seniors considered to be in the top five percentile of undergraduate researchers are nominated by faculty sponsors, department chairs, and/or program directors.
The Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Mentoring Undergraduate Research
This annual award was instituted in 1998 as a way to emphasize the importance and visibility of the faculty's contribution to the mentoring of, and advocacy for undergraduate research. Although subject to the same review committee, this is award is not "paired" with the Chancellor's award to the student finalist.
Ellen Hansen Memorial Prize
Awarded annually to a UC Davis woman student, whose original creative project best demonstrates the bravery and independence of women. For more information visit the Women's Resources & Research Center Web site.
Sigma Xi
Sigma Xi Grants-in-Aid of Research program grants of $1,000 or less to students from all areas of the sciences and engineering.
Undergraduate Research Award in Sociology
Students who complete a substantial piece of sociological research in the course of their studies are encouraged to submit that work to the Committee on Undergraduate Curriculum and Programs (CUCP) to be considered for the Annual Undergraduate Research Award in Sociology. A call for papers is usually put out in late May and a decision is made by the end of June. For more information visit the Sociology Web site.
